Playing basketball at the Elite level requires dedication and determination. There must be a strong focus in 4 main areas.


Strength and Conditioning

- Development of fundamental movement patterns

- Building a foundation for elite level performance

- Developing aerobic endurance, flexibility, and core strength

- Developing agility, coordination, speed, and power


Nutrition

- Establishing a well-balanced diet with adequate protein, vitamins, and minerals

- Minimizing processed/junk foods

- Eating a healthy diet to prepare athletes for the volume and intensity required to optimize training and live life to the fullest


Rest and Recovery

- Getting adequate rest, so your body can recovery and get stronger

- Understanding proper recovery so you don’t see a decrease in performance

- Not over-training as it can lead to burnout 


Lifestyle

- Live a healthy lifestyle, so you can continue to play at an elite level

- Get enough sleep

- Drink enough water

- Avoid drugs and alcohol, as this will severely decrease performance

The more knowledgeable athletes are about these training and performance factors, the more they can enhance their training and performance levels. When athletes reach their genetic potential and physiologically cannot improve anymore, performance can be improved by mastering the 4 areas listed above.
